Hi everyone! My name is Alauna and  I am the proud owner of LexBakeCakes!  

 

I've been been baking and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and more for about 5 years and it has really become a passion for me.  My twin sister (Alexis) and I used to watch all of the baking competitions on Food Network and just be amazed at all of the talented bakers on the shows. We always wondered...."HOW CAN THEY CREATE THESE AWESOME CAKES?" Well, my twin took the task to learn first. She started baking from scratch.....Oooey Gooey Cakes, Chocolate Cakes, Lemon Cakes, and now...her and our family's favorite  Red Velvet Cake! After tasting her tasty treats, I decided that I would give it a try too....and maybe take it a step further......DECORATE IT!  I started working with fondant and making my own buttercreams. Playing around with different colors and flavors and eventually started designing and baking birthday cakes for my kids (6 in total!).

In 2016, my twin sister, Alexis (Lex), was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Through her treatments, her love for sweet treats never dwindled.  She even made pink moscato cupcakes to bring to her chemotherapy nurses as a thank you for taking great care of her.  She battled for 3 years and in September of 2019, God called her home. Her purpose on this earth was completed and she's now thriving in heaven with our Lord.

Her passing crushed me.  Being a twin and having your bestfriend since.....forever.....no longer here is a very traumatic experience.  Our identities were intwined from birth....and now.....what?  I felt like my identity was lost. I stopped baking.  I couldn't bring myself to do anything or watch anything that my sister and I would normally do together.  Thankfully through a lot of prayer and support from my family and church....I found my passion again.  I started baking and focusing on getting better at my craft. People started to notice my efforts and creations and began to ask me to bake cakes and cupcakes for their loved ones.

Now comes.....LexBakeCakes!!! It's a play on words "Let's Bake Cakes," but the name honors my bestfriend....my twin, Alexis (Lex) Larry.  She was my everything and through this, I know she is still with me in the kitchen...inspiring me to do bigger and better!!!
